After a lot of group brainstorming, and inspiration from a few different forms of media, we have agreed on the type of Alice In Wonderland Video we want to create. I was in charge of the genre and narrative, and so came up with these ideas:
- There will be a lot of shots of the band performing the song, so the audience can associate with the band, and the band to be promoted and involved with the narrative. These scenes will be in black and white, to represent the darker mysterious alternative style of music they create, and to also separate them from the narrative occurring within the song.
- The video will start off with Alice as she speaks the words at the beginning of the song, as the camera zooms into her eye, to represent going into the world inside her head, which the song is about. This will turn into zooming down the rabbit hole, entering Wonderland, where the main part of the video will take place.
- The majority of the video will be clips of Alice (black hair and dark make-up - portrayed by myself), in a pale blue dress, walking through the woods of wonderland, almost looking for something. Eventually towards the end of the video she finds an ornate looking key - what she was looking for.
- A lot of clips of associated objects will be used in juxtaposition of other clips, such as teapots, playing cards, white rabbits and clocks, will be used to break up the video and also keep the theme of what we want to create - a random and dreamlike place. In these clips we can experiment with effects like smashing and falling and slow motion shots.
- In the video we will also have clips of the band having a tea party with the mad hatter, to keep them involved in the storyline, promoting them along with the song. As this is a debut video for our band, there will be a lot of panning shots to reveal each band member to the audience to familiarise the audience with them. There will be a chest on the table of the tea party in the woods, which is opened by Alice with her key at the end of the video, but when she opens it, the camera 'zooms out of her eye' back into the real word as she speaks the last words in the song.
The genre of the song is alternative melodic rock/metal, and so the theme of the video is mysterious, dreamlike and dark to fit with the genre. This will appeal to the target audience who like this sort of genre.
Our storyboard will be more exact on how each clip is filmed with the range of camera shots, editing effects and cutting speeds, as well as the order the clips will go in.
